Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that if you have never had any physiotherapy, you may have questions about just what it involves. We hope the questions below provide you with information to help you but if you have any other questions, please email or phone us. We will be happy to help you.

Do I need a GP referral?

Not necessarily. You can refer yourself direct for physiotherapy. However, if you have private medical insurance cover it is possible that you will need to see your GP prior to commencing treatment. I would recommend that you contact you medical insurance company to ask whether they require you to see your GP.

Do I need medical insurance cover?

No, but you will have to pay the treatment fees yourself.

How do I make an appointment?

The easiest way is to call the Clinic direct on 01782 519800. If you get through to our answer-phone, please leave a message and we will call you back as soon as we can to arrange an appointment time to suit you. Alternatively, you can email a message on info@biddulph-physio.co.uk

How long is an appointment?

Initial assessment can take up to 60 minutes. Follow-up appointments usually take about 30 minutes.

How soon can I get an appointment?

Patients can usually be seen within 48 hours.

What should I wear?

To assess the condition the therapist will need to see the affected part of your body. For lower limb problems always bring shorts. For back pain problems you may be required to undress to your underwear, although again you may wear shorts.

What is electrotherapy?

This is the use of electrical equipment such as ultrasound and interferential to affect soft tissue and promote healing. This can help with pain relief, swelling, spasm and healing.

Can I have acupuncture?

Acupuncture can be used for certain conditions and injuries in isolation or in conjunction with physiotherapy. The initial assessment will determine whether acupuncture is an appropriate form of treatment for you.
